The nameless Shadowmaster (aka Master of Time) who led the takeover of the Land of Unknown Shadows (Hsien) ages ago . It was he who first took Shadows from the Glittering Plain and used them to create the first and strangest supernatural denizens that now populate Hsien. He had a peculiar sense of humor, and his creations reflect this; they include something that looks like an enormous carnivorous duck, for example. This Shadowmaster and his brethren are long gone, but their creations survive.
