Books of the Dead

Three large tomes hidden in the caverns near Kina's prison underneath the Fortress of the Glittering Plain. The books hold the key to the ritual which can free Kina and bring about the Year of Skulls. The books themselves are trapped in the cavern but the Daughter of Night is able to connect with them somehow, transcribing them so the books may be used for the ritual. The books are long however, and although she begins her task when she is only a child her copies are lost or destroyed before she can complete them. Later, Sleepy and the Company burn the original books in the caverns, apparently severing the Daughter of Night's connection with the texts. The Khadidas, a minor avatar of Kina, knows the text by heart, but is destroyed before the books can be reconstructed.
